Determined
Yup, I'm determined. The weight really gets me down sometimes, but then anger (or something) fuels my fire, and I'm determined. I'm going to get control of this thing.
Today, I'm starting the South Beach Diet. I've had a lot of friends find a lot of success with this diet, and it seems to be the most balanced and attainable overall. The first two weeks are a little extreme, cutting all carbs, but after that, everything seems reasonable. This first phase will be the most challenging, but should also be the most rewarding. Not only should I lose a lot of weight during this phase (as most do), but accomplishing this, taking control over my cravings, will feel empowering. So I look forward to seeing what the scale says two weeks from today. Keeping my eye on the goal.
Thank you guys for your support. It really helps to know that you're out there rooting me on. Oh, and Jen, I do work out. I just don't see results from that very quickly because I tend to gain muscle before losing any real weight. Of course, having been out of town, I haven't worked out in a couple of weeks. So it will be nice to get back to that this week, too. And Maura loves the gym. They have a great childcare area there.
So onward an upward...

I just read your post below on self-image and Maura. I've been struggling with this lately too. I now have two girls who will grow up just as self-conscious and concerned about their weight if I continue my current trends. I weight myself incessantly and it's a habit I've had since high school. I'm not sure where it stems from (friends, society, advertising, pick one, I suppose), but as long as my girls are healthy I need them to feel good about themselves. Thanks for the post! :)
Good Luck Christine!! I've been "doing" Weight Wathchers for about a month now. I say "doing" because I've had a couple of weeks of not really "doing" the diet. I'm back on full force and am feeling pretty good. I lost 4 or 5 pounds the first week then got really bad. I've been stagnant the past few weeks to lose 1 this past week. It is hard but it will happen. Lets go... get rid of the baby weight!!
I just read about the self image post. I couldn't have said it any better. I like to think of it as promoting a healthy lifestyle. What a better legacy... if that is the right word... couldn't think of a better one...
