Cough-versations....

Does anybody else's kid do this? Maura makes this little attention coughing noise. It's obvious that it's forced, and she's usually smiling right after, so I know that it's not real. The other day I coughed back. This went on for several minutes. What a weird way to communicate!!

Yes. Liam does the attention cough. It is hilarious.

We're going through the same thing with Liam and the sleep, btw. now that he can stand up, he just stands in the crib and screams for us. He looks so pitiful standing there and screaming and when we come in, he's fine.
Its heartbreaking.

Hey, I just got this in one of my "development" e-mails I get for Bella, and had to share since it was quite well-timed! :)

"During the fifth month, your baby might discover that when he cries, coughs, or squeals, you react. He may even begin to use his newfound ability to control his own actions in order to control yours. After all, a well-timed cough is sure to turn Mom’s head away from the telephone and toward the baby! This is a powerful and positive discovery for a young baby, and one that develops into verbal communication. (Your reaction the first time he says Ma ma ma ma ma will be especially thrilling!) If you sense that your 5-month-old is crying, coughing, or squealing just to see what you will do, moderate your response. While you certainly want to applaud these early efforts at communication and interaction, know that the reason for the cry or the cough may not always be distress or illness."

LOL!

There's my comment on sleeping! I knew it was here somewhere.

You have to excuse me. I'm tired these days. =)

Oh yes. Both my children have done the fake cough to get your intention. We always crack up when it happens.
