Breasts, Miracles, and Multi-use Gear...

First of all, thank you to everyone who shared their experiences on that last post. There isn't a right or wrong across the board, is there? I like to hear about your personal experiences and choices, why you made them, and how they worked for you. I am declaring this a guilt-free zone on the topic of feeding your baby! All choices are the right ones if it make you and your baby happy and healthy. That's really the point of all of this, isn't it??

If you haven't chimed in yet, please do!

Maura and I went to church yesterday. I love going to church with her. She is a living, breathing reminder of the miracle of life. I like to hold her during mass. She usually sleeps most of the time. Between being held and the music, it's a good place to catch a nap. I was so distracted by her though. The warmth of her breath on my neck, the weight of her head on my shoulder, these are things that I hope that I never forget or take for granted. She's my miracle.

Maura had her two month check up today. She's weighing in at 10 1/2 pounds and 22 inches long! She screamed during her shots, and I cried when we got out to the car. She's still pretty fussy. Poor thing.

On a lighter note, I learned today that some baby gear is multi-purpose...

Hey, not only do we have the same stroller, but we have a black cat too!!! We actually have two cats, one white and one black and they both loved all of Alyssa's baby gear!

I know shots are so hard on us mommies too! I cried when Alyssa had her first shots too.

Ha! I found one of my two cats lounging on the changing table yesterday, like it's a special cat bed just for her. Actually, they think they own the whole nursery, and since T is always in our room they're probably right.

How is your cat with Maura? Our boy Sammy is "guard cat" and will sit a couple feet away from T when he's crying. Cinnamon is less interested- I swear she rolls her eyes at me when he's crying and gives me a look like, "Can you PLEASE stop that noise?" But both of them will give him love head bumps when I'm nursing him.

Speaking of nursing.. I couldn't imagine not breastfeeding my son. First, he was born almost 2 months premature, and second, he's allergic to milk proteins.

Before he was born, the thought of bf'ing honestly icked me out. And when he was born, I couldn't even try to bf for 5 days, so I expected a lot of trouble.

Surprisingly, he was really good at bf'ing from the start. We did have a few bumps here and there, and he was a month old before he could even bf exclusively (he wasn't strong enough, so we'd alternate breast and bottle).

I realized how important bf'ing was to me from the beginning. Pumping was the only thing I could really do to help my son at first (we couldn't even hold him for long) and later I felt that he neeed to be held close to try to make up for those first 2 weeks in the NICU isolette.

Now that he's almost 4 months, I can see how comforted he gets by bf'ing, and I know that he's getting exactly what he needs as a preemie to grow and develop. Plus the immunities are important as well.
