Dinner with the in-laws...
This was certainly an adventure. Let me paint the picture for you...
My husband's parents are immigrants from Sicily. I love them, but they can drive an Irish-American girl crazy sometimes! I will certainly write more about them when I have more time (they are in the next room still eating the feast!), but for now, I will give you an idea of my situation in a nutshell. Picture "Everybody Loves Raymond" crossed with "My Big, Fat Greek Wedding" but with a lot less English (and I need to mention that I don't speak Italian!)!
So dh's parents and brother and sister-in-law are in town for the weekend. This means that Mom brings in all of the food and doesn't let me in the kitchen (which is good with the constant fatigue and occasional morning sickness thing). So Mom made fish tonight. I mean the whole fish, head and all for each of us. Of course, there were several other things on the table, too, but fish is the focus of the story. My whole house smells like fish (did I mention that I'm a bit sensitive to smells right now??). I ate fried flounder--no head. Mom made it especially for me (She's so good to me) so that it would have no head.
Ok, on to the fun part.
My father-in-law (and many Italians) are from the school that nothing goes to waste. I mean nothing. So as everyone else finishes their fish, the heads get passed on to Dad who proceeds to SUCK the brains out. Slurp......slurp.....slurp.....GAG...GAG...GAG!!!!! I have to run from the table as everyone stares...
I managed to keep everything down, and best of all, I got out of doing dishes and cleaning the kitchen! But I hope, I hope, I hope they can get all of that fish smell out of here! My stomach is still queasy as I hide in the office with my Seltzer...
An update on how I'm feeling: I can now breathe on occasion, and smell, too, as you've read. My sinuses are not permanently stuffed. So that means that I have this fun congestion draining and triggering my sensitive gag reflex, in addition to smells setting me off. I'm still having trouble sleeping, but I hope that that will continue to improve a little at a time. I ordered a gadget that should help. This recommended to me by a friend that is having her baby in September. She said that it is a Godsend for the pregnant woman with a cold that doesn't want to take medication.

Maybe I'm a little over sensitive being a vegetarian and all, but BRAINS!

Well, I'll just sit here and try to keep my Boca brat down after picturing that wonderful image..slurp slurp!
Ha ha!
I'm glad you are feeling a bit better, and hey! What I would give to have someone in MY house kicking me out of the kitchen!
Sounds like a dream world to me!!
EEWW .. I'm not even pregnant and that grossed the heck out of me. I can't even imagine. You poor woman!!! Seafood of any kind set me to throwing up with Chip. I couldn't smell, eat or even look at the stuff without getting sick.
